Productomschrijving

ASME SB466 CuNi 70/30 Welded Pipe, Marine Grade Anti-Corrosion

1.Product Introduction

This document covers seamless and longitudinally welded copper‑nickel alloy pipes intended for use in corrosive aqueous environments, principally seawater and brackish water systems. The product family encompasses two primary alloy designations – C70600 (90‑10 copper‑nickel) and C71500 (70‑30 copper‑nickel) – both of which are solid‑solution alloys with controlled iron and manganese additions to optimise resistance to erosion‑corrosion and biofouling. These pipes are produced to the dimensional and mechanical requirements of ASTM B466 (seamless) and ASTM B467 (welded), with supplementary compliance to ASME, EN, and JIS standards as specified by the purchaser. The product is intended for new installations, replacement of existing corroded piping, and OEM integration into heat‑exchange equipment.

2.Product Advantages

  • Proven track record in naval applications – Adopted as standard material by major navies worldwide for seawater system reliability, backed by decades of performance data and failure analysis reports.

  • Self‑limiting corrosion behaviour – Unlike passive alloys that may suffer localised breakdown, CuNi exhibits a truly self‑healing oxide layer; any mechanical damage to the film is quickly restored in oxygenated seawater.

  • Minimal galvanic compatibility concerns – When properly isolated, these alloys show acceptable compatibility with noble metals; in practice, the potential difference with common hull steels is manageable through standard insulation practices.

  • Superior fatigue endurance – Offers better resistance to vibration‑induced fatigue cracking than many copper‑based alternatives, crucial for engine‑room piping subject to continuous machinery vibration.

  • No need for internal linings or coatings – Eliminates the risk of coating disbondment, pinhole corrosion, and the ongoing inspection costs associated with lined carbon steel systems.

  • Full traceability from melt to dispatch – Each heat is independently tested and certified; all products carry permanent heat‑number stamping, enabling complete lifecycle tracking.

  • Easy to retrofit – Dimensional compatibility with existing ANSI/ASME flanging and fitting standards allows straightforward replacement of deteriorated carbon steel or cast‑iron pipes without redesigning supports.

3.Product Applications

  • Surface warships and submarines – Seawater cooling for radar and electronics; torpedo tube flushing systems; shipboard desalination unit feed; deck washing and anchor chain spray systems.

  • Commercial tankers and bulk carriers – Cargo tank heating coils (where brine is used as heating medium); ballast water treatment system piping; stern tube cooling lines.

  • Offshore drilling units – Riser tensioner hydraulic lines; BOP (blowout preventer) control fluid supply; rig cooling water mains; potable water generation systems.

  • LNG terminals and receiving facilities – Vaporiser seawater supply lines; firewater deluge systems; utility water headers for terminal operations.

  • District cooling using deep seawater – Intake risers and distribution mains for seawater air‑conditioning (SWAC) systems in tropical coastal cities.

  • Marine research and exploration vessels – Sampling water lines requiring uncontaminated seawater bypass; hydroacoustic equipment cooling.

  • Industrial wastewater treatment – Brine handling for electrodialysis reversal (EDR) plants; cooling circuits for thermal oxidiser quench zones.
